Subjects with a congenital or acquired physical disfigurement have to cope with specific challenges related to self-perception and social relationships. Research into the objective severity of disfigurement and the quality of the subject’s psychosocial regulation revealed a non-linear and non-univocal correlation between these two variables. This review analyses factors that influence adjustment in cases of disfigurement: personal history, phase of life cycle, social support and coping strategies. From a clinical perspective it is stressed how attention to the psychological dimension increases the effectiveness of different types of psychological, educational and medical intervention.

Background Depression is one of the world's major health problems. Due to its high prevalence, it constitutes the first cause of disability among the Americas, where only a very low percentage of the population receives the adequate evidence-based psychological treatment. Internet-Based Interventions (IBIs) are a great alternative to reduce the treatment gap for mental disorders. Abstract Background Emotional disorders are common, and they have become more prevalent since the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to a high attendance burden at the specialized level, most emotional disorders in Spain are treated in primary care, where they are usually misdiagnosed and treated using psychotropic drugs. This contributes to perpetuate their illness and increase health care costs. Following the IAPT programme and the transdiagnostic approach, the PsicAP project developed a brief group transdiagnostic cognitive-behavioural therapy (tCBT) as a cost-effective alternative.
